Accessibility
The short version: AiGoodbye is built to be used without seeing the screen, at very large text sizes, in the dark and without color. Describe Surroundings was made for blind and low-vision people. Everything runs on your device and keeps working offline.
Supported on iPhone, iPad and Mac
- VoiceOver. Every button has a label. VoiceOver moves to each new answer as it arrives, and status changes such as "Listening" or "Thinking" are announced. In Voice Conversation, Translate and Describe Surroundings, the magic tap (a two-finger double tap) does the main thing on that screen: talk, translate or describe now. A two-finger scrub closes the conversation menu.
- Larger Text. The app follows your Dynamic Type size, including the largest accessibility sizes. Text wraps instead of being cut off.
- Dark Mode. Every screen follows your iPhone's appearance. The camera screens are always dark.
- Increase Contrast. The app uses the system's colors, so text and buttons get darker and clearer when Increase Contrast is on.
- Reduce Motion. The pulsing microphone, the typing dots and the recording level meter stay still when Reduce Motion is on.
- Not by color alone. States such as "Not downloaded", "Recording" or "Listening" are always shown with words and icons, never only with a color.
- Everything spoken is also written. Every answer the app speaks is shown as text, Translate shows each line in both languages, and the Recorder writes a transcript on your device as people talk.
Describe Surroundings
Point your iPhone and AiGoodbye tells you what is in front of you in one short, clear sentence. It works without an internet connection.
- Start it: say "Describe my surroundings with AiGoodbye" to Siri, add it to Control Center or the Action button, or choose it from the + menu next to the message field.
- Keep describing: leave it running and it describes the scene again as you move.
- Read text: switch to Read text to hear signs, letters and labels read out.
- Front camera: flip to the front camera when that is easier to aim.
- Describe Surroundings needs a vision model (Qwen3 Vision 2B, or Smol Vision 500M on older iPhones), downloaded once from inside the app.
Describe Surroundings is an aid. It is not a replacement for a cane, a guide dog, orientation and mobility training, or your own judgment, and it can miss or misdescribe obstacles, traffic, steps and text.
Voice settings
- Speaking rate: Settings, Speech. Move the slider and tap the play button to hear a sample.
- Listening sounds: Settings, Speech. A short tone when the microphone opens and closes.
- Haptic Feedback: Settings. Turns the app's haptic taps on or off.
- When VoiceOver is on, spoken answers use the voice settings you chose for VoiceOver.
Not yet verified
- Voice Control. Buttons have names you can say, but we have not yet confirmed that Voice Control keeps listening while the app's own microphone is in use (voice conversations, translation and the recorder), so we don't list it as supported yet.
